Where Your Listings Go – Zillow

Get ready for another installment of ‘Where Your Listings Go’.  Let’s talk about Zillow this time around.

Zillow has been a part of the Point2 Exposure Engine™ right from the start.  Zillow, the Seattle-based online real estate company, was launched in early 2006 by Rich Barton and Lloyd Frink, founders of Expedia.  Seeing a need for readily available, easy-to-find, and open information about homes that wasn’t currently being filled online, Rich and Lloyd set about to fill that need.

Zillow started out as a way consumers could find the answer to the basic question: ‘How much is this home really worth?’.  This led to the creation of Zillow’s own Zestimate tools that allows anyone to see the valuation of a specific home.  The main goal for Zillow remains the same – “to bring conversations about homes online and create a lively exchange of information”.  One of the ways Zillow stands out today is that they allow users to see the value of millions of homes across the US, not just those that are currently for sale.  This allows for value estimates of a wide range of homes, illustrating value changes over time.

The number of active listings on Zillow continues to grow steadily.  According to a July 22, 2008 Press Release Zillow experienced broad expansion in the number of for-sale listings on the site, bringing the total number of live listings to nearly three million.  Their latest numbers reported to us indicate they are averaging 3 million listings from real estate agents on the site regularly.  Interestingly enough, there are currently 82,377,347 homes on Zillow, 50 million of which have been viewed at least once and 70 million of which have Zestimate data available.  With 93,673, 000 million single-family homes in the U.S. currently, it is easy to see how large of a portion of those homes are getting exposure on Zillow.

Syndicating to Zillow just makes sense. According to their FAQ’s: Zillow is one of the most-visited real estate Web sites, with 7.5 million monthly visitors. Two-thirds of Zillow’s users are actively buying or selling a home, or plan to within the next 1-2 years.

Zillow recently released their traffic numbers which included an all-time record of 7.5 million unique users, up 61% over January last year.  Zillow had 15.1 Page Views per Unique User in the month of January 2009.  There’s no doubt about it, your listings on Zillow are getting seen by many pairs of eyes.  Point2′s Exposure Engine makes it possible to get your listing there, effortlessly.

In addition to listing syndication, Zillow offers the ability to add their web tools and widgets to your own site, providing more information to your website visitors.  On the home value estimates front, Zillow has created a special widget to showcase regional home values on your website.   Or perhaps you want to show consumers what mortgage rates are at right now.  You can do this easily with the Zillow Mortgage Rate widget.

Zillow works. I have been tracking my traffic on Zillow and my traffic has gone up on Zillow. Good call on adding Zillow to the syndication partners list.

  3. Don says:

Is this available for Canadian listings?

  4. Megan says:

Great question Don. Syndication to Zillow is only available for listings in the U.S., but if that ever changes we’ll be sure to announce it here first.
