Looking Back…(Part One)
Since I started at Point2 over two years ago, I can say that I have learned and developed more skills than I ever thought imaginable in such a relatively short period of time. One of the key things to learn, being a part of Point2, is to always expect change. By that, I mean there is never a dull moment here when it comes to developing cutting edge software for our customers.
For those who use Point2′s software to enhance their online business efforts, the changes and improvements we make may not always seem obvious. Often a minor change or tweak to a feature or page goes unnoticed, and it isn’t until a major release such as our new email system (Rackspace) or cross-browser compatibility does it cause waves. Regardless, every single change – from big to small & everything in between – requires extensive testing, testing, and more testing. Some of the smallest changes are the ones that require the most elaborate code to be written, tested, and executed.
It is for this reason that I believe Point2 is home to some of the most dedicated software developers in the world. Not only are they relentless in their quest for code nirvana, but there are several of them who have been known to stay day and night, never quitting until a job is done. Seriously, there have been times many employees have worked, slept, ate, and even bathed here. Now that is dedication!
As 2009 comes to a close, I would like to share with you a look at the history of Point2 Agent – where we have been, our biggest victories, some of our lessons learned, and where we are heading. We’ll go all the way back to the inception of Point2 and work our way towards 2009 – one of our most exciting years yet.

Phishing, Smishing and Sniffing
I started with Point2Agent from the beginning and found one thing, not so pleasant. Point2Agent has a bad tendency of reversing its policies. As being one of the founding members to join, I was given the opportunity to have a standard membership for free for the time I was with Point2Agent. This was changed at the beginning of 2009 and they decided to start charging. Same as with the standard memberships, they started charging. Now they’ve decided to increase the cost of domain names. During these economic times, I think Point2Agent is going in the wrong direction? Also, being a foreign company, all U.S. members are charge extra on their credit cards. Can Point2Agent have a bank account in the U.S.? They need to get back to the basics that they had when they started.

I’m sorry to hear that you are disappointed. I think $9.95 per month is a fair and competitive price for our product, but of course your mileage may vary.
Regarding the foreign service charges, not all credit card issuers and banks assess these fees, so giving your provider a call wouldn’t be a bad idea.
Setting up a bank account in the U.S. as a Canadian company is actually fairly complicated and rather expensive – trust me, we’d love to do it if that weren’t the case!

One of the things that I miss about Point2Agent is the VISION and INNOVATION that Brendan King and crew brought to your products on a regular basis.
Perception today is that P2A is more profit driven and happy to maintain the status quo.
A new email system was not at the top of many of our lists.
Kudos to you for the recent survey asking us what we deem important … I hope that you listened to our answers.

I don’t think this is a fair assessment Wayne, and I’ve been around here for quite a while
Our renewed focus on speed and reliability, on eliminating downtime and increasing the overall quality of our software may not look like innovation, but I believe these things are more important for our customers, and need to come first.
We’ve got a lot of smart and diligent people here working very hard to put great (and reliable) products into the hands of our customers, and to speed away from the status quo and towards general awesomeness

As a managing director of an Australian real estate agency I would like to add some comments as we have been using your service for some time. I think that there needs to be new design templates added which use the drop down css style navigation which most sites use now – it gives a more modern approach – in this one vital aspect there has been no updated design work for the last few years. Back end is fine, email migration did not affect us either way, please provide real value in this design sense – yes, I know we can pay a third party for additional design work but that is not the point. Clunky navigation went out a few years ago. It seems from above that some comments are taken personally – I used to work in IT and web design so I would appreciate it if these words can reach the right level of management, thanks, g’day from us all in Sydney!
