Visualizing the 2009 NAR Home Buyers Profile
Last week the National Association of REALTORS® published its annual profile of Home Buyers and Sellers, an incredibly thorough look into what prompted consumers to buy and sell real estate in 2009, available to all licensed REALTORS®.
This report, which covers everything from the very broad (like how much the average consumer spent on a new home) to the very very precise (such as the primary language spoken by first-time home buyers) means one thing – lots of juicy data.
For the information junkies at Point2 this means we get an opportunity to pour over the endless charts & graphs, looking for interesting tidbits, facts, and trends; but we recognize that this isn’t everyone’s ideal way of spending an evening.
So in an effort to spend the love of data around we whipped up a fancy infographic that takes some of the coolest stats from the Home-Buyer chapters and presents them in a single, easy-to-digest visual (which I might add is perfect for showing to your own buyers). For example, did you know that in 2009 single females accounted for 21% of all homes purchased? Neat stuff.
Check it out by clicking the image to the right, and if you have any questions, comments, or would like to see us publish more of these infographics – let us know.
Also, if you know anyone who might benefit from this data, nothing would make us happier then for you to share it with them. Spread the love of data!

This is awesome – very cool visualization Chris!
do you have similar data on second homes and recreational homes?
Ken
Would love to see an infographic for Canada.
So would we Catherine! Unfortunately , at this time CREA does not publish a comparable version of the report for the Canadian market. The moment they do, you can be sure we will put something together.
Excellent information! Would love to see more.
Hey Ken,
While we haven’t created an infographic specifically for second homes or recreational homes. There is oodles of data on them available in the full report, which you can check out here.
Very Nice.. I love visuals
Great job on the graphic! I actually had read the report as well yet the graphic explains it so much better
Thanks for that!
Great data. Any estimated data vailable for 2010?
Is there any infographic available for Mexico?
Hey Erwit,
At this time we haven’t come across any information pertaining to Home Buyers in Mexico, however if we do come across anything you can be sure that we will make a post about it.
Great graphic, I’m sharing it with several. More graphics, please.
Excellent! Love to have a beautiful visual on where home buyers found out about the house they purchased and where home buyers look for information about homes. That is great data to use when you are explaining why you don’t do print advertising.
Thanks for the compliment Kerry. It is really great to hear that you and your clients will see value in our little creation
Love the infographic!
So let’s do a Canadian survey of our own clients and report that info on a link to Point2Agent????? I do believe that the major Companies have profiles!
The big ten in Canada should provide a large enough sampling to create a demographic we can use!!
Wow, awesome! I would love to have more of this type of visual information. I don’t have the time to make it myself, but would use it if it were provided by point2.
More! More! More! Thanks for the encouragement to share this, it’s great and I will. But let me repeat, more, more, more. Pretty please?
[...] The education staff at Point2 Agent put together the following chart as a visual summary of some of the results of the report. They’ve also given permission for people to share this page with others. Obtain a PDF file containing the NAR Profile summary by Point2 Agent. [...]
Great concept, keep them coming.

Cool – will you create this for the first time homebuyer statistics?
Just noticed that your median age is incorrect, NAR has it as 30, you have it as 39:

Thanks for noticing that Pierre!
Wow, this chart is off the charts. I am going to print it and share with my buyers AND my sellers. Thanks for making me look good here in the north of Boston Burbs!
Katherine
Perfect, I will share in the blog!
Excellent! Love to have a beautiful visual on where home buyers found out about the house they purchased and where home buyers look for information about homes. That is great data to use when you are explaining why you don’t do print advertising.
